Become a Specialist Leader of Education
We are keen to recruit Specialist Leaders of Education to support their work with schools facing challenging circumstances. Unlike in previous rounds, we are not looking to recruit Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) for specific specialisms, rather we are looking for SLEs to support Teaching and Learning in schools, across year groups or key stages. However, we are interested in your specialisms as well, in order to support training and ITT, so please include these in your application.
If you are an experienced middle or senior leader who is interested in supporting leaders in other schools, you may wish to apply to be a specialist leader of education (SLE). To become an SLE, you need to have been in a leadership role below headteacher for at least two years. Your headteacher will be asked to confirm that you are in an appropriate role.
The role lasts for four years, after which there will be a review. The types of placements will vary. For example, one might be a two-day diagnostic exercise, while another might require a three-month, full time support role. Time may be taken as a block of consecutive days or spread over a longer period.
The role of a Specialist Leader of Education is to develop leadership capacity so that other leaders have the skills to lead their own teams and improve practice in their own schools. This may be done through one-to-one or group support and could involve a variety of activities, such as:
- data analysis
- facilitating and training
- joint action planning
There is no minimum or maximum time commitment. You and your school will need to think carefully about capacity and negotiate your availability together.
Further information and guidance can be downloaded here SLE – Application Guidance
Please apply on the application form which can be downloaded here SLE – Application Form.
Applicants will need to give your head teacher time to complete his/her part of the form which should be sent to Steve Sandwell (firstname.lastname@example.org) by noon on Monday 22ndOctober, 2018.
