Polaris is working in partnership with York St John University to offer early years and primary training places on the School Direct programme.
What is School Direct?
School Direct is a school-centred teacher training programme that allows trainees to learn from experienced and inspirational teachers working in schools within our alliance. Trainees will have the advantage of learning on the job, with support from a dedicated team of teachers and York St John University tutors, who will guide them every step of the way.
Our School Direct programme leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and PGCE. It is a full-time course running from September until June. The majority of training is undertaken with experienced practitioners in the classroom. In addition, trainees receive professional development and curriculum training from tutors at York St John University and Polaris specialist leaders at our hub in Malton. In school, trainees will work up from observing teachers and other school professionals to teaching 80% of the time.
Polaris has a wide membership of primary schools across the region, ranging from town schools to tiny village schools, faith and community schools, nursery and forces schools and spreading from Northallerton down to Selby, Ripon across to Pickering. We work closely with successful applicants to place them in schools that are both convenient and can offer the breadth of experience to provide the very best start to their career. All partner schools are committed to supporting entrants to the profession and sharing with trainee teachers their expertise, skills and passion.
